Strong relationships are central to successful leadership. Communication is nearly 70% of a leaders’ job, so understanding your Managing Partners’ communication style is critical to your success. We will be uncovering the layers of leadership required for success, starting with communication and including motivations and strengths. We will discuss how culture is impacted by the relationships at the top – executive committees, administrative teams and task forces – and take back ideas to improve your relationships, and your leadership.

•    Discuss communication and conflict management 
•    Integrate accountability as a relationship building tool 
•    Examine the interrelationship between culture and leadership

CLM Application Credit: 1 hour in Organizational Development

CLM Recertification Credit: 1 hour in the subject area of Communication/ Organizational Management (CM)

 CLM App Credit for Functional Specialists: 1 hour in the subject area of Communication/ Organizational Management (CM) towards the additional hours required of some Functional Specialists to fulfill the CLM application.

Judith A. Hissong, CLM, is the President of Nesso Strategies. Nesso is the Italian word for connection, and her business is connecting the human and financial strategies of law firms. She facilitates retreats, coaches individuals and groups, and consults with legal leaders and managers to develop leadership skills. Her business is maximizing human potential for bottom line increase.  She is a frequent ALA speaker, and previously served in a variety of ALA leadership roles, including a seat on the ALA Board of Directors. Hissong has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and a Masters’ Degree in Sport Management, and is a Master Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation.

 Steve Wingert, CLM, is a 20-year veteran of law firm administration, Past President of ALA, and a principal of Nesso Strategies. A forward-thinking leader, he understands the leadership and management challenges within law firms. He develops leadership talent, assesses needs and issues, and facilitates collaborative solutions. Wingert holds masters' degrees in human resources and business administration, and is currently a doctoral student in interdisciplinary leadership at Creighton University.
