This is a one-hour presentation on both FIPA and the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and how they affect the retrieval, retention, and destruction of Protected Health Information during the litigation process. The new 2009 HITECH regulations are also covered as well as the 2013 HIPAA Omnibus Rule.
The HIPAA Administrative, Physical and Technical Safeguard requirements along with HHS enforcement activities and fines are covered for law firms and legal departments representing healthcare entities.
The 2014 Florida Information Protection ACT (FIPA) is also covered and includes covered entities, the definition of personal information, breach notification rules and fines and penalties applying to all Florida businesses that store personal information electronically.

She is Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance and she has over twenty years’ experience in healthcare compliance for both healthcare entities and a national consulting firm. She has been the HIPAA Privacy Officer for a large private healthcare company and two litigation support firms. Heather has been presenting CLEs on HIPAA for over ten years and her presentation has been accredited by the Texas, Louisiana, West Virginia, Missouri, Florida, California, Illinois, New York and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.
