Mentoring: It’s Déjà Vu All Over Again
Mentoring is the passing on of skills, knowledge, and wisdom from one person to another, often from one generation to another. Mentoring has always played a prominent role in the legal profession because, for lawyers, mentors do more than simply pass on knowledge and information. They pass on the true art and science of the practice of law. They help other lawyers acquire vital knowledge, skills and client relationships more quickly and more effectively, than if acquired from the “school of hard knocks.” Effective mentoring programs are therefore critical to any lawyer’s professional development and for sustained success in law firm management.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn the five strategies for developing an effective mentoring program
- Examine and analyze methods for creating a feedback-rich culture
- Identify the benefits and limits of both formal and informal mentoring programs
- Discuss “new age” mentoring and the role of technology in effective programs
